USI Responds to Poverty Alleviation by Improving the Computer Equipment for Remote Rural Primary Schools of Qinghai and Gansu Province

(2019-07-03, Shanghai) USI acted positively to participate educational poverty alleviation by donating computers to schools in poor areas, which not only improves the teaching equipment for information-based courses, but also helps disadvantaged students can access the educational resources keeping pace with the times. From June 25 to 27, the CSR Ambassadors of USI visited the following three primary schools, namely Changning Wanquan Primary School of Changning Village in Changning Town, Datong Hui and Tu Autonomous County, Xining City, Qinghai Province, Dalaozi Primary School of Da’an Town in Weiyuan County, Dingxi City, Gansu Province, and Tangwan Primary School of Xiyang Hui Ethnic Town in Kongtong District, Pingliang City, Gansu Province.

To alleviate poverty, we must improve education and ensure that children in disadvantaged areas receive good education. This is an important task for poverty alleviation and a way to stop the cycle of poverty from generation to generation. In recent years, Qinghai and Gansu Province have paid great attention to the development of basic education. Their school buildings have been funded by the State. With the old dangerous ones being demolished one after another, new ones grandly have been erected. The students have bright and spacious classrooms, while the hardware facilities have been gradually improved through donations from companies.

USI has set up the project of “Educational Poverty Alleviation with Technology”, sponsoring schools to purchase computer equipment, which enables students in remote villages to simultaneously operate and learn when teachers are teaching in class, enjoy equal information education, cultivate their computer application abilities and open a window to the wonderful world for themselves. “Without computers, students only can learn it from textbooks. With computers, students can actually practice by themselves, learn to draw pictures in math class, listen to audio recitation in Chinese class, appreciate poetry and understand the convenience brought by informatization.” said Rong Li, a teacher in Tangwan Primary School.

Bowen Yao, secretary in charge of the school district of Xiyang Town, also sincerely thanked USI for bringing warm and love. Through practical operation, the students enter the Internet age and see the new world. He also hoped that USI can visit Tangwan again to bring hope to the children.
