USI and Parent Company ASE Group Co-Sponsored Cross-Strait Student Baseball League
(2018-04-06, Shanghai) The second Cross-Strait Student Baseball League held its opening ceremony in Beijing on April 4. USI and its parent company, ASE Group, co-sponsored this student sport event for the second year. Twenty cross-strait baseball teams from universities competed in the three-day second round tournament at the Beijing Fengtai Baseball Field. The second round is to continue in Taichung, Taiwan in July and the finals will be held in Shenzhen in December.
At the opening ceremony in Beijing, Mr. Long Mingbia, Deputy Director of the Taiwan Affairs Office and Mr. Tom Peng, President of the Baseball Federation of Asia, who also is the Honorary Chairman of Cross-strait Baseball Exchange and Cooperation Committee, threw the first pitch for the games.
According to media coverage, during the second game on April 4, which was the first day of the tournament between Vanung University and Tianjin University of Sports, a dusting of snowflakes began to fall. During the third game between Chia Nan University of Pharmacy & Science and Dalian University, it started to snow. It was a brand new experience for Taiwanese players to complete the game during snowing.
The Beijing tournament of Cross-Strait Student Baseball League ended on April 6. After the competitive matches in three days, Vanung University ranked first in Taiwan Group A after comparing TQB, while Xiamen University ranked first in Mainland Group A.
With baseball as the media and students as the main body, Cross-Strait Baseball Exchange and Cooperation Committee has established a new platform for cross-strait campus sport exchange while dedicated itself in ensuring the comprehensiveness of Cross-Strait Student Baseball League and promoting cross-strait baseball exchanges and cooperation.
The second round tournament is to continue on July 27 to 29. The games will be held at the baseball field of National Taiwan University of Sports and Yinghua Baseball Field in Taichung. The finals will be held at Zhongshan Park Baseball Field of Shenzhen from December 2 to 4. There will be exciting and competitive matches. Attendance will be free of charge and we welcome everyone to show up and enjoy these games!
