(2018-12-6) USI and its parent company, ASE Group, jointly sponsored the 2nd Cross-straits Student Baseball League. After semi-finals in Beijing and Taichung, the finals game kicked off in Shenzhen on December 5. Vincent Lin, Shenzhen Site GM of USI attended the closing ceremony and presented awards to winners.
A total of 42 teams were qualified for this year's finals and 100 games were hosted. After fierce competition for four days, North China University of Technology from Beijing and National Tsing Hua University (NTHU) from Taiwan respectively became the champion in Group A and Group B for universities. The Affiliated Physical Education Senior High School of National Taitung University, Beijing Dacheng School, Wuxi Meicun Experimental Primary School and Taoyuan Chung-Ping Elementary School were respectively ranked 1st in Groups U18, U15, U12 and U10.
The closing ceremony was held at the baseball stadium of Shenzhen Zhongshan Park. It started with a performance presented by CT Girls, a cheerleading team from Taiwan. Girls clapped hands with baseball players of different teams and spiced up the atmosphere. Vincent Lin, USI(SZ) GM attended the closing ceremony, and Yuan Tian, treasurer of Chinese Baseball Association, Minkuan Li, President of the Cross-Straits Baseball Exchange and Cooperation Committee, Zhaofen Huang, Deputy Director of Taiwan Affairs Office of the People’s Government of Guangdong Province, and Daping Wang, Vice Chairman of the Shenzhen Municipal CPPCC, presented awards to winning teams and individuals. Vincent Lin happened to meet a friend's son to win the award of The Best Bat in Group B for universities, and they had a photo as a memento at the venue.
Through the Cross-Straits Student Baseball League, students from across the Taiwan Straits played hard for championships, and learned from and gained a better understanding of each other. Jeffrey Chen, USI Chairman, attended the Cross-Straits Youth Sports Forum on December 2. During his speech, he said, "If each team represents a school, each school has approximately 2,000 students on average, and each student can mobilize 10 relatives and friends to pay attention or give support, the League will be able to attract enthusiastic attention from more than one million people across the Taiwan Straits. In fact, I have been told by the Taiwan Affairs Office of the People’s Government of Guangdong Province that the event got up to 530 million views. Such a number is quite encouraging!"
