Low-Power Wide-Area Network (LPWAN) or Low-Power Network (LPN) is a type of wireless telecommunication wide area network designed to allow long range communications at a low bit rate among things (connected objects), such as sensors operated on a battery. The low power, low bit rate and intended use distinguish this type of network from a wireless WAN that is designed to connect users or businesses, and carry more data, using more power.
The WM-GPS-SY-56 module is designed based on System-in-Package (SiP) technology which is a small module and consists of a Sony CXD5609GF GNSS receiver. The WM-GPS-SY-56 provides the highest-level electronic accessories integration, featuring integrated full function of multi-GNSS receiver for GPS, GLONASS in a tiny module via 43 pins LGA Footprint.
An 8 Mbit serial Flash connected through SPI to the CXD5609, is required because the CXD5609 internal MRAM is incompatible with the temperature and pressure applied during the molding process.
The SiP will be powered by a single power rail, nominally expected to be 1.9V generated by a system buck regulator. An STM LD39130S LDO is embedded to filter the 1.9V coming in to provide a cleaner 1.8V supply to the TCXO and the LNA.
The LDO output will also power the CXD5609 and the serial Flash. The CXD5609 will enable/disable the TCXO and LNA directly, using some GPIO pins. The SiP will communicate with the host using a 2-wire UART. The host will provide the 32 kHz clock required for timekeeping, plus a reset signal.
