USI and its subsidiaries realize that “Innovation” is the key for continuous growth and considers the Intellectual Property (IP) as one of our most important assets. We not only treasure our own IP but also respect all the IP around the world.
IP Management Plan and Implementation
The IPD reports the IP management plan and implementation status to the board of directors of Universal Global Scientific Industrial Co., Ltd., a subsidiary of Universal Scientific Industrial (Shanghai) Co., Ltd., at least once a year. The reporting date for this year is November 2025.
IP Management Policies
IP in USI is considered as responsibility of each employee, we not only endeavor to lower the risk of infringement but also encourage the innovation activities internally. Company provides the greatest benefit to all of our stakeholders through the most effective IP management, and devotes itself to create an encouraging environment and management system to protect our IP:
- Manage the company's intellectual property and operational systems
- Value intellectual property protection
- Ensure core technologies are protected by intellectual property laws and regulations
- Develop key technologies
Research and Patents
In 2024, USI has 2,930 R&D employees, accounting for 13.20% of the employee population, and invested CNY 1.908 billion, accounting for 3.14% of the revenue. We added an Offshore Development Center and a Miniaturization Competence Center to continue to cultivate and improve the ability of design and development personnel to maintain a stable and sustainable development in the intensity of research and development. And Nantou Facility aligned IP rights with operational goals through a systemized approach using the PDCA management cycle and achieved TIPS A-level certification.
R&D Spending and Intensity

In terms of patents, to encourage research, development, innovation, and enhance technology and competitiveness, USI regulars R&D competitions. In 2024, a total of 21 teams participated in the R&D incentive competition. Among them, 5 teams competed under the Successful Project category and 16 under Innovative Technology. After a rigorous evaluation process, 10 teams were awarded. In 2024, the cumulative number of effective granted patents stood at 754, and the cumulative number of approved patent applications reached 1,670. The patents obtained in the last four years are shown in the figure.

Furthermore, regarding USI's electronic manufacturing and service technologies patent portfolio, USI has been granted 334 patents in Mainland China, 275 patents in Taiwan, 125 patents in the U.S.A, 13 patents in the Europe and 7 patents in other countries.
