Innovations that Unlock the Potential of Healthcare Technology

Technologies drive healthcare innovations and applications. Nowadays, healthcare technology helps us collect data, process it, communicate it to required people, and allow them to share even remotely, all while administering some form of treatment.

Increasingly data is being received from portable health monitoring devices which can be used outside the general clinical setting. The internet of medical things consists of health devices comprised of systems and sensors that function correctly and collect data to the best of healthcare IoT capabilities.

The effect of fast-evolving technology isn't always constrained to cutting-edge and new medical device products. However, it extends to ones that hit the marketplace a few years ago. If a healthcare product hasn't been redeveloped or redesigned in a decade, keeping it in production may be more complex than building something new because of end-of-life (EOL) or different supply chain challenges.

The healthcare industry's risk-averse, and closely regulated nature makes it difficult to develop through the production cycle. Healthcare product development lifecycle timelines need to synch up intently with the tempo of critical macro tendencies like innovation and speedy generation evolution.

Considering these developments, USI has helped customers developing multiple medical and wearable products by integrating the state-of-the-art wireless communication technologies with health monitoring technologies:
  • Ultra Wide Band (UWB) Module
Ultra-wideband (UWB) technology is a high-precision, wireless indoor positioning technique that has become increasingly popular in recent years. This technology has very strong temporal and spatial resolution, with multi-path resolution equivalent to 30 cm.

USI incorporates this application into medical devices with extremely high accuracy for our customers. It can penetration into human tissues without any biological side effects, making it suitable for localization and detection in medical applications and useful for indoor real-time localization system (RTLS). The application is possible to use for remote monitoring and measuring the patients' motion in short distance. For the patients in ICU, it could avoid usage of too many wires around them.
  • GPS Module on Smartwatch
For runners, hikers, and other outdoor athletes, GPS watches with GNSS reception capabilities and accurate distance and location data at a glance can help them better pace themselves, track performance, and navigate difficult terrain with ease. But GNSS functionality has always been the biggest power consumer in the system, so a large battery is needed to keep it working long enough.

With proven System-in-Package (SiP) capabilities, USI has built a GPS Module size that frees up an additional 30% of space, which allows for constant battery life, but a smaller size and no compromise on tracking accuracy. This also means that customers can design thinner, lighter, better-looking watches.
  • Wi-Fi Module on Tracker and Smartwatch
The WiFi SiP module designed and manufactured by USI provides the full functionality of 802.11b/g/n (11b/g). On the design side, the miniaturized WiFi module allows for a more compact integrated circuit and longer battery runtime. In terms of usage, the user's health and activity can be precisely tracked for health condition checking and analysis, running applications, communicating with other devices, and processing commands from voice assistants via the Internet.

The integrated design of the integrated circuits enables the creation of miniaturized, functionally reliable and efficient smartwatch systems.

After learning about the above solutions for healthcare or wearable devices, you may wonder, why are they all modular products? This is indeed a key question, because the design, manufacturing process and investment cost of modularization are more flexible. That’s why we provide solutions this way:

  • Extend the Device Development by Modular Approach
In an ever-changing and increasingly competitive marketplace, a flexible and adaptable modular approach for design and development allows brand owners to be proactive, dynamic, and better prepared to face the technological changes that will likely present in the next few decades.

At its essence, modular product design creates a virtuous circle of feedback and revision, allowing the most acceptance and traction for any product in the industry. In addition, modularity can also decrease the risk of production disruptions due to sourcing interruption from supply chain. By applying a modular approach to the product design, the customers can be confident and well-prepared for future changes.
  • Fit in the future trends for Medical & Wearable devices
With the right partner, they can navigate the challenges of the current market and emerge more robust than ever. In today's rapidly changing business landscape, resilience is key to success. Companies that can quickly adapt to new trends and technologies will be well-positioned to capitalize on new opportunities.

The benefits of a resilient culture include increased innovation, improved customer satisfaction, and a more significant competitive advantage. Adopting a resilient culture will be essential for any organization that wants to remain competitive in today's market.

USI understand that the success of our customers is not only directly related to the quality of our manufacturing services alone, but on the other hand, the culture of communication between partners is particularly critical. That's why we are committed to providing reliable manufacturing capabilities, while also enhancing our service to meet our customers' missions.

Our factories are equipped to handle medical devices projects ranging from low-mix high-volume to low-volume high-mix. Whether mission assigned by customers is tough or not, we're dedicated to helping our customers develop products that make a positive difference in human lives.
